I'm only 16 at the moment. Almost 17. When I turn 18 I want to get a side bottom lip piercing. I also want a tattoo on my back, but thats another story for another time. So I'm trying to think this all through before I go through with it. I dont even have my ears pierced. I really dont want to pierce them anyway, I think it's too ... normal... I don't know something like that. So I kinda wanted to know how the professionals do it. I hear alot about how it's done at home, and quite frankly I don't think I could bare the pain if it was done at home. I hear it's less painful when it's done professionally, and it's quite believable. Please no negative comments about lip piercing. Thanks for the help!

It is smart of you to go to a professional. By doing that, you can avoid things like infections, extra pain, and diseases (like hepatitis!). What'll usually happen is that they clean the area, mark the location, if you're okay with the location, they'll clamp your lip and take a sterile, hollow needle and pierce you. Then, they'll replace the needle with the jewelry (usually a hoop for a lip). Your lip will be swollen for quite some time (and extra long if you play with all the time like I did!). After the swelling goes down and it is healed, you may want to consider changing your piercing to a smaller hoop so it doesn't flop around.

Are you getting it professionally done or wanting to know how they do it so YOU can do it...? Or are you trying to figure out which way hurts less? In my opinion, you'll definetely need pure metal, not a safety pin, although my friends do it all the time ....with no ice and...randomly... It may get infected. Don't try that. Just go to a pro..................yo...... >.>
