What about Yellow/Asian History month?
What about Brown/Latin History month?
What about Red/American Indian History month?

And everyone else I left out...

What about American History month? Are we not all Americans?

Last time I talked to a responsible, educated American who happened to be black he told me to not call him African-American nor Black, he was American.

There is an easy solution to being annoyed with Black History Month.

Commercials and programs on television are solved by the Art of the OFF button. I.e., turn off your television. I have perfected this Art. My television is gathering dust in the closet and has quite a coating by now. I am living proof that a person can actually survive without television.

Celebrations? Another simple solution: excersize your right to not go.

Museums? See the above.

American history, to me, should include everything. I wish that American history taught everything, but it does not. I know enough about American history, by my OWN studying, to know that what I was taught in school is not sufficient. This includes Black history. What I was taught in school was so sanitized and so much left out that it was useless.

Did you know the Scottish were brought here and enslaved, for example? How much about the Native Americans were you taught? American schools sanitize American history.

I like what you had to say in the end about the well-Educated American but what any group, or person, chooses to call itself is up to them.

Now, I wish more ethnicities had some sort of awareness day/week/month. My ethnicity not only does not have a day, but most people do not think we really exist or that we are a "lifestyle", not a genetic people.

So the ever so popular question of, why does blacks have one month dedicated to them?? true blacks have gone thru alot of turmoil, but so have the jews, indians, italians, spanish and the orientials. they dont have any months dedicated to them..true they may have a certain day for them but not month...yes afro americans did invent alot of ideas and machinery, they did help get civil rights for alot of people, but the moment a cop pulls over a black person or shoots them, all of a sudden the police are your worse enemies according to the black community. no matter if the cop is white, green, yellow or whatever color they killed a black man so they are rascist. how many times do you turn on the news and see a mug shot of a african american the police are either looking for...involved in a shooting, rape, a fugitive or dealing in drugs...some say its cause of all the turmoil they had to go thru..so have alot of other races so your saying that only african americans have the right to do those things and not get away with it...whos being racist now?? morgan freeman, bill cosby and eddie murphy, all 3 actors i admire all agree that there shouldnt be a black history month..when being interviewed a reporter asks a question about if there should be a black history month or how they feel about being a black actor...they all said in one way or another, they are just a man or they are just an actor, they are not wanting to be segregated from other races...MLK has a day set aside from him, what about for JFK who's helped with the cuba missle crisis, helped with civil rights, the thing is prejudice is still around because people dont want it to die and until is does die down, it wll always be a factor.

I realize this response is coming years after one persons comment here but, their comment
"Other cultures are not deserving of a month as black people are, b/c no other culture has ever experienced the trauma and negligence as black people have."

Is this person serious? Really? This has to be one of the most ridiculous, uneducated, and most common view I have heard from so many others of her race.
I, myself, am beyond sick of racism in general. And as far as I am concerned, those who keep fueling it, are those who benefit from using it as an excuse for their behavior, or a distraction.
People are people. It is that simple. I am racist toward jerks. (yes I consider them a race) and they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors and genders.
But what I am very tired of, is one race in particular, who are the most racist going, who want to keep it alive and seem to honestly believe theirs are the ONLY people to have ever been treated poorly.
Ever try doing a search for african tribes which were slave traders? I am betting not. Do some research, and stop using the crutch, and stop being so ignorant.
Really want to stop being "stereotyped"? then stop behaving like a stereotype.

Other nationalities do have their own history month, but only black history month is the most widely known due to television and our schools.

or consistent with probability he's only trolling. Liberals look disproportionally terrified of family individuals "terror" communities coming to the fore regardless of the terrors being perpetrated by their very own government. it is the comparable fearmongering phenomenon that conservatives often fall into related to the overblown possibility of Islamic terrorism coming to our seashores.

The reason black history month is on-going and will NEVER die down is to remind people of the wonderful accomplishments black people have made and their contributions to this society.

I am not tired of black history month and I will never be tired of it. Other cultures are not deserving of a month as black people are, b/c no other culture has ever experienced the trauma and negligence as black people have.

If you're tired of it, maybe you should consider moving to a different country.
