In my family we have two macs that connect to the internet through one of those bluetooth things (without cords, to the same ethernet). When both of our computers are connected to the internet, only one of us can use our Microsoft Word. If we try to open word on the other computer as well, it tells us that this copy of word is registered to the other user.
Therefore the only way to use Word on both computers is if one of us disconnects from the internet while using it.
Are we in violation of something?

Yes, buy another licence for the second computer. Usually the licence is for one installation only.

If you still have the old computer with Word installed, then you can run an application on the old computer to retrieve the key from the registry and use it to install Word on the new computer. IIRC, Belarc Advisor will return the key, but you can find others on the Internet. If this doesn't work then you will need to either get a new key or find a replacement.

I'm afraid so. We are allowed to install on one PC and make one backup copy "just in case."

When you install a Microsoft program, MS takes the product key which is usually on a sticker on the CD, mixes it with information on the PC on which you are installing it, and comes up with its own ID.

I have seen many answerers here suggest a freebie called "openoffice" which they say is compatible with Word. I wouldn't know, but you can check into it. I am a big fan of MS and would suggest you go for a second legitimate program. That way you will be able to get updates and fixes.

yes. The licence is for one individual PC/ iMac terminal only. To be fully legal you need to buy a second copy. It's not worth having agroup licence, which are designed for Internet Cafes, and besides, Bill desperately needs the cash!

If you have two copies of the Word software, then no. If you only have one copy, then you need to get a second copy.
