My 18 year old daughter moved out-of-state yesterday and it seems like she will be back soon even though she won't and I have been going through all the stages of grief...
At the moment I have been beating myself up wondering if I did something different or tried harder that she wouldn't have left like she did. :(

It is normal that when a relationship is harmed in someway that we would greive over it. There are actually many reasons a person will greive

Death of a loved one.
Loss of a long time home
Having a child that is special needs, you greive the child you expected but did not get.
Then of course broken relationships.

I don't know the circumstances in which your child left so I can't began to give you any advice on that, but I can tell you that you need to allow the greif to play its way through so that you can have closure.

Beating yourself up will not change things. What you do now is start where you are at, and if she returns even if it is just for a weekend, then you can try to work things out or at least apologize, but whose to say if you were even wrong, I don't even know you are your situation.

Just remember the greif is normal and you will get through this.

Since I don't have any children I can't relate to what a parent feels when the kid moves away. But the divorce I had nearly 11 years ago felt like something had died, which only re-enforced I can't rely on anyone but myself or my parents.

My wife of seven years left the two children and myself two years ago. Now divorced. She recently moved 2 blocks from us.

my dad left me when i was 22. he ignored me and walked away from me in a semi-public place. it was terrible. he lives and breathes less than 1/4 of a mile from where my mom lives now and he talks to my bro all of the time. not me though. i totally know how you feel. i might never see my faf but more likely never be able to talk to him again. totally blows.
