Look that is a really deep subject you've got to have a basis on it. You must have a history book, right? I know it seems boring, but man that is one of the coolest stories in history.
You've got a half-crazy King of England, a new society growing in a new land, intrigue between at least three powerful European nations that want to get bigger pieces of the new world pie.
You've got the establishment of the first democracy since ancient Greece, you've got Valley Forge, where the American Army is down and almost out, freezing literally to death in some cases, and a German military man comes in and with Gen. George Washington's blessing, keeps the US Army warm by teaching them to march in formation. And they manage to hold it together and go win the war the next year.
The Revolutionary War is the kind of thing you could study your whole life and still not know everything about it. Go find what you can and write your project, it might be boring but you'll be glad you know about it.
EDIT
why: no taxation without representation (google that)
when: Like 1776-1779 or 1780. Look that up too
who: Americans (obviously) English (lost a colony) French (inspired the French Revolution about 10 years later)
and eventually I'd say it affected the entire world

Well, first off, the actual war didn't start until 1776; although many conflicts between the colonists & the British soldiers took place earlier.
The colonists were being unfairly taxed, without representation in the British Parliamant. They had no way to present their views, no way to speak out against the raising of the taxes. Eventually, the taxes were so high, and the people were all being treated a second-class citizens, they decided to revolt.
There's lots of information on the web about this war. You just have to find it.
As far as who it affected: it effect everyone, including you and me. America may not be here if it wasn't for the revolution.
[NOTE] My full answer did not submit at first (just the first line), which is why some may see details added later. Sorry for an initial inconvenience.

I can't give specifics, but Wikipedia should help you out.
Basically the Americans were pissed off that the British were pretty much reaming them for their resources and money, The Parliment was passing tons of new laws and taxes on the colonies without any american presence to present an opinion whatsoever.
That's where the phrase "taxation without representation" came from. Eventually they started protesting, things like the Boston Tea Party incident happened, and eventually escalated into outright war between the Rebel americans, and the redcoats. With the help of the French Military in the north and the French navy to the east and south, they were able to force the British to retreat and claimed independence.
