my laptop obviously still has a connection from the wireless network. otherwise i couldn't ask here. when i first set it up, it had an internet connection, then, after I added a bunch of extra features, i somehow lost the ability to access websites. my pc (server) is behind a router which is connected to my cable modem. everything is set to be automatic. but i tried to assign a static ip address for my server. I beleive i did this correctly on my router and on my pc. for clarification, my internal ip is 192.168.0.100. and subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. default gateway is the ip of the router as seen by my network. 192.168.0.1. and my DNS is the same as my router ip. my connection manager shows connectivity, but when i ping my router i get nothing. I can't seem to figure this out.
I also set up a domain. When i log into my computer, i log into a domain that i created. this is probably where the problem is. I am unclear about how DNS works. any info will be appreciated. thanks

This has nothing to do with dns if you pinging numbers, dns only resolves names ie if you were pinging ur computer by name and it didnt respond then that could be a dns issue. Can you ping your server from your laptop?? Sounds like you got an ip mixed up somewhere
