Jesus cursing the fig tree and making it wither and die because it didn't have any figs on it when he walked by and was hungry.

God stopping the Sun in the heavens so some human beings would have more daylight to kill other human beings.

I happen to believe that both these stories are intended to convey a message and are not intended to be taken as a literal record of anything that actually occurred. That is my view of most of the bible, in fact.

I have a real problem with those fundamentalists who insist that stories like these are a literal and accurate account of anything that actually occurred. Once one takes this very narrow view of Scripture, one has to reject nearly all forms of scientific inquiry; anthropology, astronomy, biology, paleontology, geology, even biology.

These stories are fine for the lessons they teach us about living. But they should not be taken literally.

" I am the Alpha and the Omega....the first and the last "

to me that says it all, kills all doubts and nothing is more powerful than that as it speaks of the Lord himself, not of anything that he has created which is by far less than his presence itself.
