Wait! You are the just the kind of teacher kids desperately need. I'm a slow learner. I know how hard it is to learn. So do you. So you will be able to help them better than anyone because you know what can go wrong. The only thing you still have to learn (what every teacher needs to know) is that it is ok NOT to know all the answers. The perfect response is honesty. When you don't know the answer, just say so. NObody knows EVERYthing. You can say, Wow! That's a great question! Let's find the answer together!
You said you want to teach. Don't talk yourself out of it. Have a backup plan in case it doesn't work out (anybody should do that) but please give it a try. It's the hardest work you will ever do. The system is crazy. The lack of discipline is unbelieveable. But the rewards are indescribable. If you want to teach, don't cheat yourself.
How did I know I should teach? I didn't. Not until I went to college and watched one of my teachers. I never realized how inspired I was to teach, yet all along, I had been doing just that. When I first went to school I was 6. I came home after the very first day, invited the little girls who lived next door to come over, and I taught them everything I learned in school that day.
You know you're supposed to be a teacher when:
-every time you learn anything, you feel compelled to pass the knowlege on to someone else.
-it is important to you that your students are ready for the world when they leave your class.
-when you make things better, more interesting, more fun, more filled with information each time you teach the chapter over the next year.
You won't truly know how you feel about teaching until you are on your own with 30 kids for a year. The first year you teach will be the hardest, most wonderful year of your life. The kids will teach you. The second year you will be able to build on what you know. By the third year, you will have your classroom running like an orchestra playing beautiful music.
Go be a teacher. The kids need you.

Listen to me...
First, If you know the answer to every question a kid will ever ask you, you are smarter than Albert Einstein.
Second, student teaching is hell for everyone who does it. If you ask any experienced teacher what the worst 10-16 weeks of their lives are, they will respond "Student Teaching."
Third, if you are able to make it this far through college, your learning disability at this point could only make you a stronger, fairer, more understanding teacher. It obviously isn't hurting you academically, but you will always have a reminder that some students face adversity on a daily basis and will be more compassionate.
My advice to you is that you have come this far.. give teaching 3 years and if you don't like it after 3 years, then find a different career. For right now, what you are feeling is 100% normal and will pass.

Use your learning disability to relate and empathize with your students. Find ways to teach them out of the box, that have worked for you in the past. You have the advantage! You have been forced to see and learn lessons in different ways! Teach in these creative ways and share your stories and ideas. It's okay to not know an answer. Teachers without learning disabilities sometimes don't know answers too! This helps students understand that there is no reason to feel embarrassed or dumb. The reason we go to school and learn is to discover HOW to find the answers, not to KNOW all of the answers. You have more in you than you think.

Brilliance is not what makes a good teacher, particularly not in an elementary school. Although, of course, having a learning disability does not mean you aren't brilliant. What a teacher does need is to know how to explain things and how to be patient. In fact, your learning disability might make you a _better_ teacher, because you will know how to deal with your students with learning disabilities. You'll never be that person who says something like, "If you just would concentrate..." that completely wrecks the poor kid's self-esteem.
It sounds like you're having a self-esteem problem, which is completely common and normal. One of my best friends has a learning disability, and I know she struggles constantly with feelings of inadequacy. She'd make a truly wonderful teacher, if her heart was in that path, though, and she's also very smart (though try telling her that!). Try going to a therapist to talk this through. You shouldn't give up on your dream because of this.

Unfortunately, this student teaching thing is more of a job than a wanted career to you. Don't let it get you down though. Teaching isn't for everyone. Try to work in a field you feel comfortable and happy with instead of one that causes you to have this low feeling.

student teachers often feel like they don't know what they are doing. its a time to practice. now thats not to say that you should or shouldn't do it. stick it out, finish your degree, and see where you are at the end of the time student teaching. if you enjoy it, then by all means stick with it. if you don't, well, then you'll have your degree, and that can get you a lot of places.
you're not stuck with whatever you choose for the rest of your life.

You want to change a childs life, love being around children, become a role model for the child, and worry less about your paycheck and more about helping children, teaching them, and make sure they have a bright future ahead of them.
