Why is it that when any American team has their Championship they call themselves the champions of the world? To be the world Champion you'd have to beat other countries.

I know why basball is called the World Series, because the first baseball championship was sponsered by the World Series Magazine.

It might be more accurate if they called themselves the World Champions of the NFL, but that's a lot to say!!

In some of the sports, particularly baseball the players are of many different nationalities. In baseball over 40% of the players are not American born.

I suppose if the leagues could expand internationally & make more money they would have done it already!!

Because America is the most powerful country in the world, and people from all over the world come to play sports in America. No one else has the diversity in their sports that America does. (ie Japan's Baseball League, where only 3 foreign players are allowed per team). People from everywhere come to play in America, and that is where the best end up, because they make more money, and become bigger celebrities. And a few sports have international teams (Baseball, Hockey, Basketball)
