How do I get my space back on my ipod? My 4GB ipod says I've used 3.68 GB. I've actually only used 2.43 GB for music & 27mb is used on the "other" section. From what I understand the other is what was already on the ipod when it was purchased. So how do I get the space that is missing back? I should have like 2.23GB left.

How do I get my space back on my ipod? My 4GB ipod says I've used 3.68 GB. I've actually only used 2.43 GB for music & 27mb is used on the "other" section. From what I understand the other is what was already on the ipod when it was purchased, memory used for song titles, clock etc... So how do I get the space that is missing back? I'm missing almost a whole GB, and I KNOW it's not the song tites taking up that much space. I should have like 2.23GB left.

the ipod has to use some of that 4gbs to store your information. everything that you see on the screen (song titles, menu information, pictures) has to be stored and it uses some of the 4gbs...you can't get it back unless you delete some songs or pictures or something

Just about all mp3 players come with a journaling partition on the drive. This is why when you get for example a 4gb player it says you have 3.80gb available. The other is used for the partition. This is probably the space that you're trying to get back. The partition contains information that tells the computer how to access the drive faster. You could erase this partition, but that would make the player useless. In short you can't get that space back. If it's any consolation, I was pretty ticked when I found this out. If I pay got 40gb of space, I want exactly 40gb of space.
