Every time you want it to stop someone brings up something. MLK day, AZTECA, seperate languages, one language. It is never ending. Your definition of bigotry, albeit dictionary, is too narrow.

In the definition of "bigotry", there are two ideas: 1) That distinct groups of people exist, and 2) that this distinction warrants the abuse of a particular group. How one group usually abuses another group is by denying them their human rights.

That's sort of a mouthful, but here's the cheese:

We still have "bigotry" because we deny the human rights of our children in our schools.

They are learning that human rights are not guaranteed for all humans. It is being taught by the way we teach.

This is the 2) in the definition of "bigotry" above.

All we need is a new way to teach that upholds the participant's human rights.

Because people in the world are jack holes. God honest truth. People are also frightened by anything that isn't the norm. A current issue is gay marriage. We've been taught over and over again that a man and a woman marry each other. But in this day and age, that is still there but there are people that want to marry another man or another woman.

Oh and Christine, the reason that the definition of the word is there, might because there are people reading the question that might not know what the word means. You might wanna engage your brain before acting like a bloody moron.

Because the "we" that is stated does not cover for the whole of the American public. No matter how educated a person gets, they are still sorrounded by people who aren't. For example; if you are a person who was, as a kid, constantly sorrounded by a racial stareotype. It will tend to stick with you. As unfortunate as it may seem, that is the truth of it all. But we can at least take our steps to make sure that we aren't Bigots like that cracked out chirstian chick from Trading Spouces. ( ^ ) ~ (

It is a part of human nature. But by education, it may not necessarily arrest the question. Religion does explore this human nature with values and ethics, and of course the believe in the hereafter, where everybody will be judged for their deeds or follies. Thus, there is hope for eradicating this kind of bad spirit or nature and will turn human to humanity. If education fail to produce this result, then, we should eradicate it and replace it will something more meaningful, like stressing on religious values.

There is a song from South Pacific that explains it

You've got to be taught, before it's too late.
Before you are 6 or 7 or 8.
To hate all the people your relatives hate.

You've got to be carefully taught!

The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree.

Sure, a lot of people are educated. But there are also a ton of idiots out there. They don't want to change their ways, and they pass their hatred on to their children.

Why is every other damn question about racism. Quit feeling sorry for your damn selves, get over it, and move on. Find a charity or something to devote some time to. Jesus Christ, I mean if it is not for save the children by some celeb who only cares because they were sentenced to community service, or some whining people who are worried about being discriminated against because they are black or female or skinny or fat or jewish or gay or whatever. It's really enough. Is the BIGGEST thing in your life that you need to worry about? Seriously. IF it is, you really need to get a life, that has real problems.

They either didn't pay attention in their sociology classes.

Didn't care about the information, and decided to embrace the opinions of family members.

Or wasn't afforded the opportunity to study soc.
