Because sexuality is not about sex. It is about love, first and foremost. Straight Men don't stay men just because women have vagina's... if that were true then why don't they just screw animals? they don't say 'no'. That's not how it is, though, is it?
Sexuality is about who you trust, who you can commit to, who you feel right spending your life with. After all of that, is only sex an issue. Sexuality is who you can love in life. Gender identity is who you are to love another. I am a woman, and firstly I love myself, as a woman. I love being a woman. I am comfortable with myself. Only then can i determine who I can love, be they woman, man, or transitioning in between. like all other human beings, I love first. not lust.

Because they don't identify as the opposite sex. That would be a lie to them. They may even have some gender atypical characteristics, but they don't identify as the other sex. Accepting ones homosexuality is about accepting the innate truth about ones self. That does not include pretending to be transgendered in order to receive hetero privileges. By the way, a lot of gay people are not into "buttsex," including gay females.

I'm not attracted to women at all -- I'm attracted to males. If I were attracted to both I'd be bisexual, but I'm gay.
Homosexuality is outward directed. You like your own body, and you like other males
Transsexuality is inward directed. You don't like your own body, you want to be the other gender.
Being a female -- I can't actually imagine anything that I want LESS than turning female. I love my **** and my body, I just happen to be turned on by OTHER male bodies and people, rather than females.
Hope that helps.

PS and the answer to axl would be -- cause it isn't, sorry you are stuck on that -- but you can assert and assert and assert -- and it still wont' be true. If you have any intellectual interest in truth, you might start with Dr. Bruce Bagemihl; Biological Exuberance; St. Martin's Press. I can recommend a few hundred studies to follow it up with after you read it. Contact me if you want.

LOL! OMG, are you serious?? Well, first, they don't "choose" to be gay. Secondly, who you feel like as a person(male or female) is completely different than who you are attracted to.
Thirdly, you make a reference to "buttsex", but that only covers the question as far as males are concerned -- what about the women?
Fourth, I think what you REALLY mean, is that you are secretly gay, but you are so afraid to admit it to yourself that you have to pretend to be a hater and ask unnecessary questions.

Only you seem to be attracted to buttsex, my friend.
Why can't straight people just choose to mind their own business and clean up their dirty thoughts?

I sometimes wonder about these supposedly straight guys who like to get on the internet and talk about buttsex.
And there's Axl again, who told us in his own question that he's uncomfortable around homos, and still can't find any place he'd rather be than the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered section.
Poor sexually conflicted Axl.

Why can't you choose to be 'transgendered' (I believe you meant 'bisexual' Bisexuals are attracted to both sexes. A transgender is a woman born in a man's body - or vice versa). They are attracted to form and pheromones just as you are with the opposite sex.

I am quite happy going out with a Tranny. He was born male but has connections with his female side. Some girls like that! I am one of them.

1: Your question is insulting and rude.
2: You make assumptions that all gays are male
3: You make assumptions that all gays engage in anal sex
4: You make assumptions that all gays identify as their opposite gender.
5: You conveniently forget that MORE HETEROSEXUALS engage in anal sex than there even ARE Gays!
