It depends.If the shipper requires a signature you have to sign in person.If you are not home he will attempt delivery for 2 more days.If the slip he leaves has an area where can sign a waiver.You can leave it for him and he should leave the package.By signing you are waiving your rights if the package is stolen.

Sometimes they leave the package on your doorstep. I know many times I received a package without signing for it.

if you think your not going to be home, then i would leave a note for the ups guy to leave it with the neighbor or in the back ...
