Don't say "practice", that is a given. Do you have any other tips?

Seriously, don't say "practice", because that is obvious.

Not mentioning any names, but I think I've just recieved the worst advice I've ever gotten in my life. :P

I do practice, which is why I don't want people to say "practice". I'm looking for tips and pointers, not to be told something that I already know that I have to do. :P

Practice is a given because that's really the only way. Other than that, I suppose quality instruction and dedication would be the only important factors.

Find songs on CD that you like and that have really clear riffs or chords, depending on your level of skill and get the chords or tab for them, then practice playing along. I took lessons for a while but I really found I got better faster just by learning to play songs that I like and sort of felt like lessons were a waste of money. I think they are more effective if you're doing classical style and want a bunch of music theory, not as much if you're a rocker and want to be able to play along with a band.

Play jam-session style with other people who play guitar and are better than you. That's where my skill developed the fastest.

Aside from practice, the only advice i can give is to learn the basic chords, A, E, C, G, F, D. If you know these chords you can play pretty much anything. Learn the basic open chords then once you master those you can move onto the Bar chords. Practice fingerpicking the scales it increases the speed at which you can progress through you chords and your finger mobility.

Once you find a technique that works for you, keep your right hand as relaxed as possible which will allow you to play with more speed. Make sure you keep that left hand synchronised.
Why dont you like practice? Thats is the only way you will progress!
Here is another tip. Makesure that whenever you are playing that you focus on playing clean, meaning dont muffle your notes. Each note should be nice and clean, if you focus on this, you will improve!

play when the mood strikes you. don't push it by Practice. I hated the instrument I chose in junior high because my dad was always screaming practice! you love music or you wouldn't want to master a guitar, consider what you want to achieve next and play when you feel it!!

If you're looking for a secret or a shortcut, then I think someone has misled you along the way. Dedication, determination and the "P" word are the true ways to get to the top. Good Luck

Ok I won't say practice, I'll say practice HARD. I mean play until your fingertips are raw and then play untill they bleed and then stop practicing. Tomorrow, do the same thing. And again. And again. And... ... ...

Study the scales. There's a mathematical precision to music that you need to earn chops on guitar. There is no real shortcut. Study your scales until your fingers bleed, and then study some more.
