the screw type thing seems to be frozen or locked shut. what should i do - dont want to break the motor.

I would check that the switch is in the proper position.Try moving it back and forth and listen for the click. The units are designed that the switches would wear out before the motor so don't try turning the feed screw by hand. On top of the ice tray should be a lever that raises with the level of the ice cubes. Check to see that it raises and lowers freely. That is attached to a cut-off switch to the ice maker. I would lay odds that is a dirty connection on the wire harness. Clean them up and the unit will work good as new.

Empty the ice into another container and set the bin in the sink overnight to thaw. Many times for unknown reasons the ice cubes get frozen together in the barrel and crushing mechanism of the ice bin. If there are no broken parts in the crushing mechanism your auger should turn freely by hand once the ice has been thawed.

If you still have a problem there is something in the mechanism that needs attention and I would recommend calling for service as the mechanism can be tricky to disassemble and reassemble correctly.

need to deice it by either emptying the freezer and turning the temp control off-(hard) or turning the temp down leave the stuff in there and try a hair dryer.(easier)
