ts_flande... - take a look at my past questions. You'll find that this one is the rare exception. I thought some foolish cons had it coming. :)

I'd rather say it is the Evil of Imperialism vs. the Evil of Fundamentalism. In the end, the people (Iraqi and American) lose, while global corporations (in higher profits) and radical clerics (in growing hatred for US) both win. They couldn't have planned it better if they had conspired to create this situation.

This war is a Greek tragedy caused by an unnamed person's hubris who had to out-do his daddy.
EDIT
Good point yote, but don't you agree they couldn't had planned it anywhere near this well either?
Point being, these kinds of Evils are allowed to grow because of evil with a small "e", just stupid reality causing a big mess and the perfect storm for fundamentalists and war profiteers.
EDIT
I'm not comparing it to Greece a more apt comparison would be to Rome. Greek tragedy was a certain kind of tragedy where a heroic character had a single flaw, typically hubris (or pride), which caused all of his heroic nature to be wasted.

When exactly did you stop beating your wife?
Now if you have filled your quota for loaded and irascible questions. Perhaps you would like to have a real debate?
To me evil is slaughtering entire populations of people because they have a different belief than you. Sunni/Shai says it all. These people are supposed to be brothers under Islam and they have been having tribal massacres lasting more than 1000 years.
Let's not forget that the people we are fighting hate basically everything we stand for: freedoms of speech, religion, thought, making a better life. These people are willing to behead Americans simply BECAUSE we are Americans.
If that kind of rabid hatred isn't evil, I don't know what is.

Well, I guess some mental wizard's might be able to conjure up something else like its evil versus evil or all some big misunderstanding.
I see it as them versus us. I don't think the guys blowing up street vendors, and people lined up to get jobs could be mistaken for good guys or the result of some misunderstanding, or even the result of us being there. Otherwise the Palestinians wouldn't be shooting each other down in the streets of Gaza. Its a matter of dealing with the terrorist or waiting till there over here shooting people down in shopping malls. I saw we shoot them down in Iraq, Afgahistan and Iran first.

That's all depend on What's evil to you,,, To me evil is,, when your own people killed each other in the name of Allah, when there are no laws to protect their citizens and they are butcher with gas, women, men and children. evil is when you wrap a bomb around you and go into a store, bus, public place and kill innocent people. evil to me is when you are trying to help someone and they killed you because you are different. There are more example but I know there are more people out there that want to answer you. That is EVIL my friend and if you don't know what evil is then how could you be a good person in life. You have to know what is bad so you could be good. Good luck!!

I'll raise my hand. Allow me to explain why...
Our society has an understanding of 'Evil' as a force that purposely inflicts misery and destruction on others.
When the US gets its way (especially when we win in war), we help build productive, just societies that serve the needs of their people.
When Islamists get their way (as in Afghanistan) they build a society ruled by fear, rape, brutality, oppression, by the crushing of humanity under an iron fist.
The common people living under Islamist rule do NOT have a choice of lifestyle. It is forced on them, brutally. Women suffer the most. To claim that it is just how their society is denies the fact that it is not how they CHOOSE to live. In contrast, we have built a society in which people get to choose their lifestyles.
If we are to use the words 'Good' and 'Evil', it would be fair to evaluate the objectives of the two sides of the conflict. I haved no problem applying the 'Evil' label to the objectives of the Islamists. I've seen enough of them to understand their ways.

No hands up here, the Iraqi and soon to be Iranian war is about the price of oil and oil profits. We are not the good guys but Saddam was worse. Even worse then Bush, although Bush has killed almost as many people.
