is this natural maturing behavior or is he coppin a 'tude for some reason? approximately 4 months old and he's been in the family now for 3 months. his envirnment hasnt changed. everything is status quo

This is definately a defensive behavior. In the wild they are prey for birds so it is a natural response to you reaching in over them. I noticed with beardeds that were not getting enough animal protien are more aggressive.

This is usually their response to feeling threatened. Does he do this whenever you approach the tank, or when you try to pick him up? If only when you pick him up, he may feel that you're a predator if you try to grab him from above. Try putting your hand out, palm up, and picking him up from beneath. They also don't like being held too tightly.

It is perfectly normal. My dragon does it on a regular basis. Theres alot of reasons - showing off, defenses, stretching.
