I purchased a used 1999 Yamaha V-Start that has had a lot of custom work done to it. I was wondering how I can be certain if it is a Custom or Classic model.

I have a V-Star 1100 Classic. The Classic has a full back fender and a full sized fender on the front. The Customs' back fender goes about a quarter of the way down and the flares out straight back. Hope this helps.

I too would be interested in a good answer on this question. I know that if you go to the link below and type in your VIN, it will decipher the VIN code for you, but I don't think that the VIN will tell you if you have a classic or a custom. You could try asking your question with the good folks at International Star Riders Assoc. The link to their forum is posted below as well.

Ski....click on my profile and look at the black bike. It is my wifes 1100 Classic.(with lots of custom work done to it to) pay close attention to the rear fender. If the pic is too small there are better ones in my 360 yahoo.

good luck and ride safe
