It got me thinking because I don't recall ever seeing it happen. If a team is attempting to kick the extra point after a touchdown and the holder drops the ball or something and they end up running it in, how many points do they get?

Thanks.

If a PAT is attempted as a kick and it goes awry and is run in or passed, it is 2 points, even if the offense did not originally intend to run or pass the ball.

No because the team that scores the TD dosent even attempt the point because the game is over. Just like when Denver scored that TD in overtime. The game ended, everyone ran on the field because there is no need for the PAT.

It would be 2 points if a botched XP by kick were run or passed into the end zone.
