Fortunately in a democracy the people rule. In a representative democracy, a republic, the people rule through people they select to speak and vote on their behalf. We can't all be in Washington to argue every issue or vote on every issue.

If we do not tell our representatives how we want them to vote on our behalf they will vote any way they want. Generally they vote with the majority of their constituents as that is where the votes will come from for their reelection and where the money will come from too.

I have found that I have expressed an idea to a legislator they were able to give me information I was unaware of and I could better understand why they voted the way they did. Other times they tallied my comments along with those of others.

Republicans and Democrats alike favor higher taxes, more government spending, and economic intervention. Note that since Bush took office, annual federal spending has increased by 40% or so. How does that government pay for it? By printing money, the most egregious (hidden) tax of all. It's much easier than going through the trouble of raising taxes. Just debase the currency.

Doesn't anyone wonder why today's dollar has lost more than half its value in the last 15 years? It's not due to any market-induced inflation. It's because the feds are simply devaluing the fiat dollar by running the printing presses.

Politicians of all stripes (Democrats and Republicans alike) only know of wasteful, inefficient, government spending as a 'solution' to society's ills, even though the government 'prescription' is worse than the original problem!

Thanks to the Democrats and Republicans, the average American family pays about 40% of their total annual income in taxes (direct and hidden) - more than they pay for food, clothing, AND shelter COMBINED!

And don't forget the $8.5 TRILLION federal debt (about $28,000 for every man, woman, and child in the U.S.). What about the future debt obligations to all of the entitlement programs (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid), which has been estimated at $40-80 TRILLION? Who will pay for that? Your kids and grandkids - that is, if the federal govt doesn't go bankrupt first.

Ain't a dime's worth of difference between Democrats and Republicans. Both seek to use the State's monopoly on force to intervene and control our lives as much as possible. Voting merely legitimizes their rule.

Dems will or will try to reverse and raise taxes. They have a history of it and it is contrary to Republican ideas. Just as Reps will do to Dems ideas. (Already Edwards is campaigning on tax increases to pay for health care. I don't want government health care. I want the government to look into and correct price gouging by ins companies, medical facilities, pharmaceuticals....)

'just another supper mom' has the right idea.

We can overthrow the current government. In 08, if every state were to vote out congressmen that have been in office for more than 4 years - providing the opponent is not a total moron. Then do the same in 2010, we can completely change the course of our federal government.
Wouldn't it be nice to have fresh faces and ideas and perhaps people who can and will work together. Maybe even represent those who voted them into office-that would be refreshing. They would owe no one. No good 'ole boys bunch. No cliques.
Then to keep things going, every 2 years, vote out those who have been in office for 4 or 8 years.

Republicans are spending just as much as Democrats! Neither party has any desire to reduce government or its power.

I'm for a revolution, is anyone with me?
