Looking for a summer vacation/family reunion in the middle of the country. What is near St. Louis (within 50 miles) that is on a nice lake with resort options?

I was never confused about which st.louis you were refering to I was letting you know of the best lakes/resorts in st.mo. area and some of the surrounding areas as well

Our work schedules are crazy right now - so we decided to go to Calistoga, CA. We are going to go for a few nights in a B&B that has gotten great reviews - I checked out the Best Places to Kiss travel guides. We will go wine tasting, have spa treatments, golf and eat at the French Laundry. We are really looking forward to it. We considered Vegas but then thought this is our honeymoon and we want something that is more about us/romantic and not just partying down with a town of people around. Another idea we had was to start a drive down highway 1 - this runs along the CA coast - start in San Francisco and go all the way to San Diego then fly home from San Diego. Stop in Monterey/Carmel, Big Sur, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, just make your way down south. that would be fun too.

Do you mean san diego or st louis? Because 'it is what it is' says you need to be clear about that.
