well the fuel pum in the gas tank has a sending unit that has most probably gone bad! first thing you need to do is disassemble the gas tank from the truck and remove any hoses that go from the tank to the fuel lines. then there is a little circular cap on top turn it so it will come out of the locks, and pull the fule pump out. if im not mistaken your probably going to have to replace the whole fuel pump sending unit and gas level reader because they are connected together. just go to a local auto shop, o'reillys or something and let them know the year of your truck and they will fix you up! its an easy job!

i own a repair shop and i would say you have a bad sending unit in the gas tank ,that's causing this to happen ,the only way to repair it is pull the tank off of it, that's how you get to it,its s common problem with fords though to do this, its a pretty good little job to repair this ,you might want to have this one done by someone who has a good shop to work in,that's about all i can tell you, i have replaced a lot of those before ,they go bad like anything else does, good luck i hope this help,s.

most likely the sending unit quit working....the little part of the pump that sends message to the gauge.
My one blazer did this and I just ran off my odometer for miles instead. Knew that a full tank up I could go 440 miles so at 400 miles I would just tank back up. Cheap mans way around the issue.

Possibility of bad fuel sending unit, which is part of the fuel pump assembly, does it move at all, or does it stay in one place?
