Professional football is played in enormous domes--hence the name "bowl." It's called the Superbowl because it's, as you said, the championship.

And, of course, we're talking brown pigskin, not black and white balls, the words "American championship football game" is a superfluous phrase. You could have said, "Why is the Superbowl called the Superbowl and who named it that?"

Yes, Americans call "football" soccer and football, football.

Sorry, don't know who came up with the name, another forward-thinking American, I suppose.

The Superbowl is the name I think they call it superbowl because it was the biggest game of NFL season. The person who named the SuperBowl was Lamar Hunt. He passed away a few months ago. He was the owner of the Chiefs. Go Colts

In professional American football, the Super Bowl is the name of the championship game of the National Football League (NFL) in the United States. The game and its ancillary festivities constitute Super Bowl Sunday.

Probably in the link, somewhere.

Lamar Hunt, owner of the then AFL KC Chiefs thought the NFL-AFL championship game lacked pizazz. His son was playing with a Super Ball, College football has many bowl games...
Besides what country has a professional team that can compete? Canadian Football? (Yes, it is markedly inferior.)

BTW, go know yourself biblically..:)
