I'm answering this on my husbands account... It's good that you are going to the Dr. While it can be normal for your periods to be out of whack at your age getting checked out is always a good thing. When you go they are going to ask you at what age you started your period...how regularly they come....how long they usually last...what medications you are taking...and they are probably going to ask you about sexual activity etc...just answer honestly its all important information to see what is going on. From there it depends on the doctor.. they may not want to examine you especially if you haven't had sex yet.because of your age and probability that this is a normal variant...or if the doctor believes there is a reason to they will do what is called a pelvic exam. They will ask you to remove your pants and underwear and give you a gown and cover sheet. The doctor will then proceed to use what is called a speculum to open you vagina a little in order to look at your cervix and uterus. This is not near as bad as it sounds....millions of women and girls go through it every year. Chances are unless the answers to the above questions are highly irregular, you probably won't need the exam, but again that's up to the doc.. Don't sweat it..nothing could be as bad as having you period for a month straight!! Good luck..hope this helps.

They will probably ask you lots of questions about your period and how often you are having it and such. They will ask if you are sexually active, and will probablly do a papsmear test. This can be uncomfortable but its quick and easy so the best thing you can do is relax. All it is, is he or she will have you lay on a table with your feet up and they will put in a thing that opens you up so they can see, then they will take a very small spoon shaped thing and gently scrape around the inside of your vagina. It doesn't hurt I promise it just feels wierd. They will test the scraping for any infections or cancer. Then they will probablly prescribe a for of birth control that they believe will work best for you to help control your periods. It may take a few times of trying different kinds before you find one you like and work well for you. Main thing is don't be scared, every girl has to go eventually, just try to make yourself comfortable with them and stay relaxed. Remember you aren't the first girl they have seen and they have seen some pretty nasty stuff before.

You will be asked general health questions, as well as questions about your period, if you are sexually active, etc.
Before the exam begins, ask your doctor to explain everything to you, and show you the instruments he is going to use. Don't just let him get down there and start doing things. I made that mistake the first time I went in at age 14. It might do you some good to take your mom or a good friend along to keep you company during the exam.

They will ask if you are sexually active for a start!! they will ask Q's relating to your periods but just try to relax, if you are tense you will make things worse, remember these Nurses have seen hundreds if not thousands of people in your position, so dont panic! They will ask you to remove your underwear and trousers & lay back on a bed, your feet will be resting high on extended parts of the bed, so that they dont get in the way, then she will insert a metal thing inside you and open it up to get a good look!! lol it does NOT hurt but u may feel a little period pain!! they will have a look, may need to feel around for any abnormalities & may then take a swab (get a long cotton-bud looking thing & pass it over your womb/cervix, somewhere in there & send it off for testing) dont worry tho its over b4 u know it!

Basically its a little nerve wracking. But take deep breaths and you'll be okay. First they'll leave the room and let you change into the paper garments. Then the doctor will come back in and talk to you for a few minuets about whats going on, if you have questions etc. The they'll probably do a pap smear which is where they open up your vagina using what most women call "duck lips" which don't hurt they just stretch it a bit. Then they'll stick a qtip in and take a swab. They'll also feel your overies by placing a hand on your abdomen and pushing down a bit. Then she'll show you how to do a breast exam by proforming one on you. Then it'll pretty much be over.

Wow that is a long time to have your period. They will ask about your family health history if there is any high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes etc, if you take any meds, if you are sexually active, if you are having pain and what symptoms you are having. They probably do a pelvic exam to make sure everything is ok internally.

I was about your age when I had to go to my doctor for the same thing, my periods would go for weeks (I think it's called hypermenorria). I went to my family doctor instead of a gynecologist and my family doctor didn't do any type of internal pelvic exam - he just prescribed birth control pills for two months to regulate my period, and it worked.

you'll be asked if ur sexually active first off and they will go from their depending on your response. you'll be asked for a urine sample, a nurse will be in the room with you and the dr. the dr. will give you a breast exam and a papsmear. he will ask you to relax your hips and lay your legs to the side. they open your vag. with a plastic salad tossing looking instrument, and then he will just take what looks like a q-tip and swab u with it real quick and its over. just remember to relax and it will be over with before u know it!
