Do you mean what lead to it falling apart? Well a lot of things did. For one thing the states of the USSR were all originally their own countries which wanted to become independent nations again, as well as the fact that after WW2 the whole area was struggling for both work and money. Then they were involved in the cold war with America, which was a non-fighting war mostly just threats. They fell apart I believe in 1991, because they didn't want to be under the rule of Russia anymore. Theres a lot more to it I know, but I don't really feel like going into that detailed, the link below is to a wikipedia (which you can never cite as a resource in school) that talks about it, I would use it as a reference so you know what your talking about.

communism did.
as any imperial nation that have ino ncentive to excel must absorb wealth from out side their borders.
once the USSR could not expand the borders the army became a force to control the population not protecting it(or protecting it from individuality)
China continues because it dumped communism and moved to capitalism (for party high ups(commoners are still serfs))
others hold control with fear or strict government control
