I have a 36 gal Via Aqua tank with a male and female Convicts, yellow lab, and kuhli loach. The female has laid her eggs a few times, but they have not been fertilized. The male guards the eggs continuously. I tried water changes, temp adjustments, and different types of food but no luck. What else should I do?

Give them something to hide the eggs in. A small pice of PVC pipe, or a clay flower put laid on it's side. Also add some plastic plants to give the fry someplece to hide, and someplace for mom and dad to hide them. We used both with a pair of convicts in a 10 gallon tank and wound up giving 46 to the local pet store.

I agree that the internet can be a great source of infomation, but to get the best information it's best to go where you are more likely to get the best informaiton - a spot that deals with what you keep.
Check out www.cichlid-forum.com. You can learn how to establish a proper convict pair, to keep them, and to breed them. You'll find out that if you do get them to breed, your other fish will be doomed. Good luck.

Maybe your temperature is off by a bit or nitrate levels. Yahoo Answers is the net! I think this is a great place to ask questions about taking care of pets. There is a category for it and what works for one person might not work for another. Books don't know EVERYTHING!

A small %. of %pipe, or a clay flower placed laid on it truly is section. also upload some plastic flowers to provide the fry someplece to conceal, and someplace for mom and dad to conceal them. We used both with a pair of convicts in a 10 gallon tank and wound up giving 40 six to the community doggy shop.
