I've found 3 solutions, but 2 don't make sense.
Note: we will associate each letter with a number,
i.e.: A-1, B-2,...
Since, we are looking for directions, we need to know N,S, W, E
N-14; S-19; 23-W; 5-E

We need to break up the sequence 1111123 into 6 numbers and use "sum" somewhere...

We could find 1+1+1+1+1, 23 => East, West ..which is not a direction!

11+1+1+1+2+3 = 19 => South.. but going South from South doesn't make sense either.

11+1+1+1, 2+3 = 14,5 => North East, which makes sense

And that is all I can find, so I conclude, you'll head south from the North-West portion of the map.

1+11+11 = 23
12/(1+1+1+1) = 3
