It actually happened to me when I was about thirteen. I was the only one in there and it got stuck between floors in a hotel. Being so young, I didn't know much, so I was convinced that it was like a bank vault or something and that I would run out of air after a while.
I shouted "Hey" over and over for just a few minutes. Someone heard me and shouted back asking what was wrong and I told him I was stuck. He said "Okay" and then evidently took care of the problem because just a short time later the elevator was moving again.
When it arrived on my floor and I exited, there was no one there, so I just returned to my room.
Since I thought that fire fighters would have to rescue me, it was a very anti-climactic ending.

If? Oh no.
I was about 7 years old when I decided to accompany my mom and my uncle to see my sick aunt at the hospital one afternoon, little did I know half way down the floors, our elevator would get stuck for 1.5 hours! It was a frightening experience. I grew up claustrophobic and developed a fear of elevators. Fortunately I got rid of my fears not too long ago.

Ok that is literally my worst nightmare since I haven't taken an elevator in over 5 years. I think in the beginning I would totally freak out & pray I had my cell phone with me. Call 911 & while waiting for help, call someone who could help keep me calm. But seriously, if it started getting really long ... I don't even know. I would definitely go back to FLIPPING OUT. I'd prob try to climb out the top like Mission Impossible style! LOL

It is one of my worst fears. I always check to make sure I have a cell phone with me if I get on an elevator alone, and I will take stairs before taking a crowded elevator.
I'd probably just sit there and panic until I got help, but if it ever really happened, I'd probably get lots of exercise walking stairs afterward.

Kively Papajohn of Cyprus spent SIX days trapped in an elevator. She survived on her groceries.
Closer to home, a Chinese deliveryman survived for three days in a NYC elevator without food or water in 2005.

I was stuck in an elevator. I had a panic attack. I felt like I was going to die. It was like a heart attack. I breathed in and out like I learned in LaMaze and closed my eyes and thought of my favorite place in the world, the Carribbean.
Good luck finding out how you would deal with it. I walk now. I don't care how many flights of steps. There is no building above 20 flights in my area.

I would panic the first five minutes of being stuck. I prefer to use the stairs, but sometimes if I don't have a choice, I'll use the elevator.

Try to call. Use the flashlight to read a book or magazine (sometimes l carry one). Plan my activities for the coming week.
Tap on the wall using the Morse Code if it gets more desperate.
