Yep, I do it all the time (and then a quick hand wash). The things to know are that flies can't see movement of an object that travels under about 5 km/hr until it is right on top of it, and that they can't fly backwards (i've actually seen slo-mo footage of a fly taking off and doing a loop in the air just to fly the other way). So, the thing to do is approach it from the front, move in really slowly, and when you're a couple of centermetres away, QUICKLY snatch in and close your hand. Doesn't work every time but I have a high success rate. Handy skill to have when you can't keep blowies away from Xmas lunch =)

yea. i'm really good at it. i hate having even one fly in my house, so if i can't spot a swatter, i'll sneak up on it on a flat surface, and snatch it's @ss, usually on the 1st try.
