Maybe we need to show more graphic visuals on TV so that people know what's actually going on, like they did when Vietnam was on. Bring the stuff to the light.

I totally agree with you, I wish the war would end so all our men can come home safe.

At what point did people begin to believe that war is a Boy Scout Jamboree? War is ugly, violent and people die. Media involvement usually tries to report the worst scenarios not because it is accurate but because it sells copy. The Tet offensive was a major strategic victory for American forces (46,000 plus Vietcong deaths versus 7000 American and no Vietcong objectives met), yet was labeled a loss by the press and thus the American public. Our enemies from the Vietnam through current times have learned how to harness this "power of the press" and use it as a weapon against our forces. Why do you think the videotaped kidnapped people being beheaded was taped and then disseminated to the media? To get public sentiment going against the war.

I believe that part of the point that you are trying to make is that there are way too many similarities between them. Among other things, they both involved an incredible number of lies from the government, they both polarized the country, they were both unwinable, way too many civilians were killed, those who are pro war call anyone against it a traitor, and we went into both for the wrong reasons.

The war in Viet Nam ended by us just plain leaving. We lost that conflict, big time. One of the reasons is that our entire method of fighting was doomed to failure. We didn't have an exit stratigy, we just kept sending in more troups to do the same wrong thing, the wrong way, over and over and over. We were trying to accomplish goals that were literally impossible. We tried to change a people's actions without changing their way of thinking. All of these are also present in Iraq.

I think/hope that we all agree that it is necessary to do what is needed to fight terrorism and to protect our country. What people don't agree on is how to do those things.

Personally, I have mixed feelings about many aspects of this. Sadam was a total a**hole and deserved to die. So were/are dozens of other murderous dictators; yet we didn't go after them. Why him and not the others?

Why is it acceptable to label anyone who disagrees with the administration as a traitor? That seems very anti-American to me. Why does the Bush administration think that only by taking away our rights can they protect our rights?

Did the leader of the free world really have such incorrect intellegence reports? If so, why were those in charge of getting that information not immediately fired, in order to send a message? The only answer that makes sense is that is not what really happened.

We were supposedly in Viet Nam, partly to protect the world from communism. Did we do that? Russia fell apart, but was it because we fought in Viet Nam and Korea? Actually, both involved China more than Russia, and China is still communist. For that matter, what is left of Russia is also.

We are supposedly in Iraq to protect our way of life, and safeguard our country from outsiders. How come we are doing so little about illegal immegration then? That is challenging our way of life in several respects because of the acts of outsiders. Why no war over that?

I could go on and on and on about this.
