There is what is called, WATER PRESSURE, in your water pipes.
When more VALVES are opened as in the SHOWER and FLUSHING the COMMODE the WATER PRESSURE goes down. In this case on the cold side
If the COMMODE was hooked to the HOT WATER LINE the WATER in the SHOWER would get cold when THE COMMODE IS FLUSHED.
Say, your in the SHOWER, somebody starts the WASHER, filling it with HOT WATER. The WATER in the shower gets cold because the water pressure on the HOT side water line goes down.
And, if you don't hurry up in the shower that washer is isn't goin to leave you any hot water.
Just a hint here.
You need to take a wash cloth and wet it real good.
Put it in the freezer just before you get in the shower.
If the commode is flushed while ur in the shower.
Take the wet rag out of the freezer and slap the one who flushed it up side the head with that cold rag. That just might cure that problem.

It shouldn't affect the water temperature if you are in the shower and someone flushes the toilet. If it does then the pipes that were installed when the house was built are not large enough. The toilet only draws cold water so this will affect the water temperature under these circumstances.

A shower uses hot & cold, a toilet uses only cold, so the cold water is used by the toilet and it takes cold water away from your shower so that will make the water hotter.
