What if they come into office and they lie more? What if they stir up even more resentment against the U.S.? I mean, things can't just magically improve.

Well, it's hard to say what will happen. But it was in the news today, that John Edwards is already writing a new bill for a TAX increase to get health care started.

So, no magical improvement. We'll just start getting taxed again for government controlled health care. I really can't imagine things getting much worse, but then...you never know.

The possibility is always there, but I seriously do not think that the next president could do more damage than Bush. The sad thing is that the next president will have to spend the majority of his/her time cleaning up the messes that Bush has made before he/she can focus on anything else.

Fortunately we have a system of government that is designed to help protect us from bad presidents - bad in the sense of incompetent, and bad in the sense of truly wanting to do evil.

The American people have proven amazingly resilient over the years, and they know when a President is working hard and simply cannot do the job (Jimmy Carter) and when other forces are at work (fill in your own blank)

But between the various branches of government, the system manages to keep things working.

Your question reminds us, however, of just how important it is to be actively involved in the process of electing officials. Not just registering and voting, although that is certainly the necessary minimum. But even more, by finding out about candidates, by working for candidates - perhaps even becoming more actively involved as a candidate.

Old saying - people in a democracy deserve the leaders they get. (OK we're a republic, not a democracy - but you get the idea)

Well personally I'm not sure that's even possible. But it might be. I think that the only way it could get worse is if Secretary of State Conndalleza Rice were to run for president, and win.

I dont think that is even humanly possible. I really hope we don't, because anything worse than Bush is like a nuclear bomb that knocks out the whole world.

It's entirely possible that the next President will not be as good as Bush. Hildbeast & Obamarama are leading the Dem fields. Either would be a huge step down. In such a case we would suffer for 4 years & hopefully make a better choice in 2012.

Not a chance in hell. G. W. is the worst president this country ever had and the worst that will ever be.

I don't think it's possible for someone to be worse than him. I think the American people have finally learned their lesson and I hope for all our sakes that they are thinking clearly come next election.
