The Kyoto Protocol was a highly publicized event aimed at lowering greenhouse gases and emissions within the environment. It was sponsored by the United Nations, in Kyoto, Japan in 1997. It set goals for each of its 160 participating countries, so that the effect of global warming might be decreased over a specific time period. The United States and Australia refused to participate, and Canada and the UK are struggling to meet the standards, and they're not too happy with them, or so I've heard. Read that article, it will help a lot more than I can.

The Kyoto Conference (and the so-called Kyoto Accords) was intended to use 'environmental protection' as a stalking horse to economically cripple the United States for the benefit of socialist and totalitarian states. Much is made of the refusal of the US to sign the Kyoto treaty, but little is made of the fact that a) the treaty does not place any restrictions on China and India, the world's largest polluters, and b) of the European signatories who look down in high dudgeon on the US, *NONE* have met their target reductions in emissions, while the US *HAS* done so based only on market forces and technological advancement.
