Charles Woodson was the winner of the Heisman Trophy in 1997 when Payton Manning was in contention. This made Woodson the first defensive player to ever win the award. Payton finished second in the voting.
Danny Wuerful won it a couple years before Woodson and Ricky Williams won it in 1998, after both Manning and Woodson left for the pros.
