of literally anything. I think the Neocons took their cue right from that famous Nazi Goering.

Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. ...Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

You are right. The mass media has shamelessly promoted this illegal war from the beginning. Without them, it literally wouldn't have happened.

Neocons running the mass media? Fox is the only one that doesn't parrot the DNC spin control and are accused of being under neocon control. Neocons didn't shove the operation bojinka dicuments down Sandy Berger's pants, no more than they forced Monica into Bill's. Or forced democrats to bow their heads at teh midwinter DNC conference for muslim prayer. CNN and others, including Al Jazeera, are doing far better at propaganda, or else republicans would not have lost the last election. There is propaganda going on from all sides, all the time, people get the government they elect, if they vote foolishly without thinking, do what they are told,, or don't even bother to vote, they get what they deserve. Wars are fought over precious resources, WW1, WW2, and WW3, the good news is the next major conflict after that one, Einstein predicted will be fought with sticks and stones.

Apparently you fail to realize that the news media is like any other business, it's in the business of making money. They do that by telling you what you want to hear, be it doom and gloom or the occasional "Feel Good" story. They have targetted audiences. Rarely ever will they allow themselves to be forced into telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
The point that you REALLY have missed though, is that this whole mess could have and should have been avioided. It was the U.N.s job to send troops into Kuwait to push Iraq back in the first gulf war -- Desert Storm. It was the U.N.s job to uphold the cease fire agreement they negotiated to end that conflict. They did neither. And. it should not have been up to the U.S. to lead a coalition of force against Iraq in either war. Pitty you are too blind by your own hatred and bias to see and realize this.
And finally, of course anyone in their right mind will denounce a pacifist. Just look back in recent history Neville Chamberain, Prime Minister of England was such a pacifist. He "negotiated" "Peace In Our Time..." with Hitler by giving Hitler the Sudatenland -- it wasn't even his to give. Did it work? No. England almost fell. It was Churchill who stood up and was counted when the chips were down. And, had he failed, he surely would have hanged.
You give yourself away as being a childish, simple minded fool, by calling conservatives names such as "Neocons." So, to set the record straight, "Neo" meaning new, I'm not new. I'm middle aged and still in good enough shape to kick your sorry hind end. "Con," to lie to someone, to con them. I don't lie. I tell the stinging truth. Most people don't care for the truth. Truth is based upon fact and facts for your kind, just don't fit your paradigm. If I may be so bold as to make a civil suggestion? Perhaps you should try studying history a little more closely. You might actually learn something useful. Perhaps you could do something REALLY daring and enlist in the military. See what it is to actually put your money where your mouth is and serve your country too!

I'm a neocon and I think the mass media is the tool of the liberals for their agendas and has far more power in influencing the people than any leader has. If a leader says we are being attacked and we aren't if the media is for that leader they will go along with him and they will drum up the peoples support. But if they don't like him it will be the situation we have here now.

There is no doubt that you are on the right track . The problem is , is that many people are manipulated to believe in these boogey men . If Osama or Saddam or some other bad guy of the week didn't exist , it would be essential to create one . These conservatives claim that Democrats use fear tactics . However its the neo-cons that use the media , and they use it well to influence the masses . The evolution of the Internet has , I believe , has allowed people access to all sides of issues . Ignorant people will still keep believing the media completely. But these people are closed-minded sheep to the slaughter . And they don't even know it . Guess you gotta give the media props for pulling that one off .

The mass media in this country has been so overwhelmingly opposed to Bush and the war that you must be joking with this post.

I would like to know who beside you states that Saddam caused 911? I have never heard this assertion by anyone. The argument was that Saddam was a rogue state that sponsored terror, he was and this is indisputable fact. There was also a very good argument to be made that Saddam had the potential of arming terrorists with wmds and while hindsight is 20/20 (some wmds were found in Iraq, but not in the quantity susptected), it is stll undisputed that he did in fact have wmds at one time and it is also undisputed fact that Saddam had violated and continued to violate UN mandates which were in direct response to a war that he started. However, no one has ever asserted that Saddam had his hand in 911 and for you to make that assertion is a dishonest, cheap and underhanded trick.

The mass media are overwhelmingly against Neocons or for that matter, all conservatives. They are in the pocket of the Democratic Party.

I do however, know that the media can be quite influential, just not in the direction you suggest.

You mean Goebbels.

And the media beat the drumbeat for Bush's war as hard and as loud as they could.

All the major papers acted as stenographers, simply printing whatever the White House put out, and the networks all had logos and theme music for the buildup.

I'm told that 70% of the people oppose this war - if that's really true, I'd have to conclude that Mr. Goering's plan isn't very effective.
If it isn't true, perhaps the liberals have taken his cue in producing bogus polls and statistics.

I'll tell you all what. You had better watch for the radical Islamic factions. That is going to be our biggest stumbling block to peace anywhere. They hate anyone who doe's not agree with them and they preach killing us all. Just look at the news shows. They teach their kids that we are filth and need to be done away with.
