I love biracial children, I have three of my own. I think that when they are younger they sometimes have a bit of confusion but I blame that on the ignorance in the world. For example, one of my children looks very Hispanic and when I picked him up from school once a little boy asked, "Why is your mom black?" I know that they're just little kids but I'm thinking, of all of the biracial children in the school... duh!
But I think that biracial people are changing the way other people feel about race. Think about it, if you are a racist and one of your children marries outside of their race and has children, you are forced to look your hate in the face and come to terms with it. I have seen firsthand, biracial grand babies change peoples perspective on things.
The sad part is when people's ignorance forces biracial people to choose sides. What's wrong with saying I'm biracial. People expect you to claim one race which essentially denies the other. I think that biracial people are beautiful and they should embrace both sides equally and be proud of who they are.
edit: I have never seen a check box on anything for people of mixed race. And my children are Black and Hispanic and the boxes usually read "Black non Hispanic" exactly in those words. If it says that I don't mark anything. Otherwise I mark the "Black" box and the Hispanic box. Also when filling the birth certificate you have to choose one race or the other. When my first son was born in 1998, the child was automatically given the mother's race. Now you can choose but its one or the other. I chose Black because that is what the world will see them as. But I think it is sad and rude that they have to do that.

A lot of mixed kids get picked on from both sides of the fence. I personally have seen some very beautiful mixed children over the years. I think all people no matter what color they are, are just plain human. I take a lot of surveys online and I check the box where it asks what color you are as I prefer not to answer. I don't think it's right for anyone to ask you what religion, race, color or creed you are. To me it's just as bad as someone asking how much you weigh.

They are fortunate to have love from both races. I also see that my mixed gradsons are really beutiful and they can express their happiness in more than one languages.
It is now no more time for racism. Mankind are entering the age of maturity, and liking or not, they must learn to love each other to collectively solve the urgent problems which are threatening the destruction or at least the grave sufferings of all mankind: global warming, avian flu, AIDS.... It is quite wrong now to stick to or to fear prejudices.

I have no problems with biracial or even multiracial people because no matter what your ethnicity, we are all still the same, which is human. If you think about it, most Americans are mixed with another race if you just look at your family tree. Though I consider myself black, I also have Cherokee Indian and Creole from my mom's side of the family.

First of a ll as a mother of a bi-racial daughter I find it degrading that you would ask such a question. Do you have no respect for either one of your heritages? I know that you did not choose to be born this way but come on God made you, he put you on this earth for a reason, so why would you question any of the above.

isn't there a bi-racial option now on tests. that or other would be my choice. my kids will be half black, half white, so i am going to tell them that they are both black and white and they should be proud of both sides of their heritage. i will call them mixed or biracial.

Mixed people should circle in other. And the only way someone would have an 'opinion' about "mixed" people is through generalizations, prejudices, and/or racism.

i find this question both degrading and apologetic sounding. you say 'half' black and 'half' white as though black is the canvass (or white) from which to work upon.
what do u want people to say? How fundamentally wrong it is to integrate? aesthetically how attractive mixed-race children are? I frankly resent the fact that there is mindless tripe like this to be found on the internet. It's not useful nor interesting.
