Root of the problem might be that Bangalore city infrastructure is not keeping pace with the city growth, but lot more can be done by public like Driving Sense, Parking Sense etc. while govt agencies act on infrastructure growth which will take a while due to inefficiencies in Govt execution. Do we all including traffic police know what are these?

A few suggestions:

IT companies should be less concentrated in one spot. Having even a couple of them one after the other makes it a mad chaos at the time when they get off. So far the hot spots are Whitefield which makes Airport Road a nightmare, Electronic City which makes Hosur Road a nightmare and Oracle, Accenture and IBM on Bannerghatta Road which makes that road hell.

The other thing is car pool. I am sure this is not a unique phenomenon of the IT companies but on this aspect i am speaking purely from personal experience and hardship. I travel on banerghatta road quite often and now i have made it a point not to travel on that road when all the IT companies get off work. 6:30-7:00 is the peak time. There is always a fleet of cars at the Oracle and Accenture office waiting to get out on the main road and every car invariably has only one person in it!!

The third most important thing that the govt. can do is to have better local transport. The networking is so bad that if you miss one direct bus to your place/office, you won't get another for the next one hour. It drives more people to use their own vehicles under the circumstances and hence more traffic.

I think traffic police is doing their level best to tackle the situation.

Flyovers will just move the traffic from the main road to the side.
Metro is a good thinking but it will take time.

More buses like Volvo (but security is another concern if any thing happens some where people will burn the vehicle), carpooling. changes in the office timings.

First people should follow the traffic rules properly.
Example. Special lane for auto’s no one follows that.
I have seen people riding through foot path. Footpath is not for riding.
If there is no divider on the road one side will take all most 80 percent of road and result traffic jam.
According to me follow the rules properly and little commonsense. Even though traffic is there at least it will clear fast.

Simple solution to solve the traffic woes of Bangalore is Just shift the IT companies outside the City and ask them to build quarters for their employees as the ones built by PSU factories like HAL, ITI, BEL and others. Do not permit anymore of these IT companies in Bangalore. They can open the new Companies in other small Town and Cities in Karnataka like Mangalore, Bidar, Bellary, Hubli.

Bangalore city is not a separate country within India. So, when you don't pass ports ( sea port or international airport) to come to Bangalore from Mumbai, why would you need a passport? Visas are not required for travel within the country.
