Tell them how much $$$$ you are looking to spend. Tell what type of riding you want to be doing, park, pipe, free riding. Tell tham what kind of rider you are, beginner, Intermidiate, advanced etc. You need to ask how stiff the board is, what kind of side cut radius it has, A bigger number it has the more aggressive the rider you need to be to manouver on it or it will whip you good!! Remember a high end board doesnt make you a high end rider, practice does!! So dont let the sales people talk you into the 1000 dollar burton if you only go a couple times a year and are a beginner.

well first go to a small shop. Then note if your going to do rails or just ride. If your doing rails, the boards are softer on the bottom and it will be tougher and slide without damaging anything. If you are just cruising get a riding board.

if your going to buy a board dont worry about the height and look for the weight trust me i bought mine by that and the good ones and bad ones are different

How you like to ride, if you want something with more control than speed, your skill level (assuming beginner), your price point, warrantied?

if YOU are buying a board, and you're a beginner, make SURE you tell them this. and DON'T go to one of the big *** chain sports stores. they don't know crap. go to a smaller store where peopel that actually go "boarding" work.
