how do u sex them? i have 2 that are a lightish black color with like orange on the side, a dark black one, and a ligter black without orange on the side. they range fomr 1.5" - 2.5". and why is my bigger dark black one chasing the lighter blkac ones with the orange on the side?

Using color to sex convicts can get a bit difficult with the various color mortphs that have been produced and the interbreeding between the morphs. The most reliable method is the shape of the dorsal or top fin. Males have a much longer and more pointed dorsal fin than the females.

Look, its not that hard to breed convicts. And females have orange bellies, males dont, simple as that. But I think you are probably trying to breed incest convicts. If they're from the same store, 99% chance it's incest, and they will never breed.

the ones with the orange sides are female , my guess is the males are chasing her to have sex with her

The ones with the red...those are probably the males. It's a breeding thing. Convicts are very territorial..the big one is trying to show who's boss. If you have two males the smaller one is in for it.
