What is life? How do I know that I am Alive?
Going into the field of molecular biology we find we are nothing but atoms and molecules, that is it. Yet I am Me, I think, I feel, I eat and have breath and I have the ability to produce a progeny.
But what of Fire. It eats and breaths and can be said to produce young. The only thing it doesn't do is think and react, but since it is a chemical reaction just like what powers us and has the same abilities as me except for the ability to think is it alive too?
If I am made up of only atoms the same a rock or the sun why is it that I am the one who has life?
Please explain your answers.

This is an excellent question, to which I gave a star, & hope others do as well. By the time I get my thoughts together, you'll probably have a dozen excellent answers. I hope so, because it's very provocative. I have no expertise in biology, so I'd like to ask this, very sincerely--can't atoms & molecules also be considered "alive?" Does "thinking" define being "alive?" I also wonder if thinking is a definitive intellectual process, or might also include such things as reaction, instinct...what a journey of speculation & philosopical thought. This is the kind of question that "keeps" me on Yahoo Answers, even though they have snatched away my avatar & 360 (with many others). I truly hope you'll get some interesting thoughts in response. Oh yes, by what premise do you state "...I am the one who is alive?" I seem to be answering your question with questions, & that is what makes it so very fascinating. (I am the goat in the Capricorn symbol, nickname DRAGON if you've seen me here before!)

plz addd these line in ur poem.. Outside the ups and downs, pains and pleasures, with clarity of mind. What is this thing called life? Coming and going as they do, what are all this things called life? Just another rock floating through space, what were those things called life? yes, these thigs alwyas tourcherd me for a long, but now i known the meaning of this song(beautiful life) the life is like a road or a contract with god..

an excellent question., I have starred it also.
first, how dare you presume that the flame does not think , or have life ect, as you have said. it is not daring only very presumptuos, as you have never been a flame. and what you have been (or 'is') you have no Idea what it is and must now ask this question.
I may be incorrect but consider this; life is life, just as God is God, Just as water is water(and not hydrogen and oxygen)
just as a tree is a tree (and not wood and leaves), ect
the point is that things are given, and most especially when they are given!
life (or existance, or reality or whatever you wish to refer to) is 'among' (if not 'the') the most blatant givens. and to define or seek purposes for it may well be irrelevant, redundant and without any meaning..
life is what it is right now when and where you are.
there is a saying;
If you cannot find the truth right where you are
where else do you expect to find it?

There is no life with out death, you have to be born to receive life.
Once that life has expired now you have death.
What is in-between is living your life, our God give us both, you have a birth date but no death date.
And you will receive death for there is no life with out it.
So you live your life and hope that you are in good sprits with your creator God.
You will know once you have passed on about his thing called life, and their is no return once you have lived you life.
I hope this helps in the understanding of life.

So, you're not talking about life as from the spirit, but from the scientific studies. I don't see life that way. Life is what we do here on earth and how we take each day and study each part of life.

life is a magazine
reality is just a concept that you imagine to occupy yourself. Maybe you are the only "existing" being and you created everything else to occupy you for all of eternity and when you die you will wake up and realize that you are God and decided to forget this on purpose during your "life" as a human.

'life' is the same as 'file'...just spelt differently.
thus, the question can be rewritten...what is this thing calle File?
