I mean, there are a lot of run of the mill kids out there. Isn't it just getting those kids' hopes up to only have them dashed later when they realize how average they are?

Postive reinforcement si great for the childs self-esteem and this is an important thing to promote HOWEVER forget the runathemillers there are HORRIBLE nasty brats whose parents are telling them 'yes, sweetie' in response to abominable behavior and I would just as soon see these lil monsters terminated before they 'mature'

Didn't your parents ever tell you that you are special? Kids need to know that they have something to offer the world. They need to have their self confidence reinforced moreso than adults do. If we just told all our children they were only "average" there wouldn't be much getting accomplished when they become adults. I certainly hope that if you ever have children you tell them they are special and not just average!

Telling kids they're special, means "special -ed". Saying someone is talented or gifted is another story ~ and kids need to know of, and embrace their talents and gifts.

Hmm I never thought of it that way. But usually every child is told that they're unique, I guess it's because there's only one of them, no one else is exactly like them.
