You're correct, they don't use flashlights on-board The Titanic.

You're right. They don't. What I am sure the little girl was referring to was the 'idea' of the use of the torchlights some of the passengers had. The use of flashlights by Titanic's crew as depicted in the various Titanic movies, has always intrigued me. I never thought about flashlights existing in 1912. In Cameron's movie, they were depicted as being bulkier, almost like a battery-operated lantern. In ANTR or Titanic (with B. Stanwick), they were depicted as the tubular form we are so familiar with now. (If my memory serves me correctly)

If I remember correctly, the daughter was using the flashlight to try to communicate to their neighbors (flashing an S.O.S. signal) by Morse code. And, since in the movie, the Titanic's crew used Morse code to send out a distress signal (S.O.S.) to other ships after they found out the ship was sinking, that's most likely what she meant by "I learned it from 'Titanic.'"

I don't think batteries were around in1912, they used lanters or flares.
