I'll break this in smaller parts, so I can give a better answer. So, what is the cycle of family violence mean? It is swift punishment for any flaw or immagined flaw (generally violent) in the family unit. So, what does social violence mean? I believe it means that the rules in a sub-society (like the projects) has many families in it. These families often believe the above cycle. So, this is a social violence--one that is accepted in one group of people as correct.

the cycle of family violence means that when there is a family of a mom, dad, and child and a parent is violent they are teaching the child these same behaviors. When the child gets older they have a higher chance of continuing these behavior into a family of their own where they will teach their children the same behavior. The cycle continues until a child grows up and makes a conscious decision to not continue the violence.

It refers to a "learned behavior" by people, their children and their children's children....and ongoing.

In simple terms. If your grandfather was violent towards your father and your father is violent towards you. (like a chain reaction).
