I've heard it all--"high school is scary and tough" to "high school is fun--you'll like it--and it has more freedom than middle school".

I'm a 3.34 GPA 8th grader who is very confused. I hate middle school already, and I know I'll have to work harder in high school, but I don't know what to expect, other than I'll have more pressure. Can any of you help me?

I hope this helps you. It has been about 10 years since I have been in high school. The first week is the scariest. Not that people will be physically attacking you, but you will have different hallways to memorize and probably have different lunches, After the first week you will have this all down pat. Once you get the first week behind you it should be fun. The one main difference is people do not tell you to do things. Example, If they tell you to have a book report in by a certain time, they will not remind you till they tell you to pass them forward. They will not hold your hand so to speak. My advice to you , Meet up with old friends or make new friends and make the most of the situation. It gets harder as you get older and go to college and from there get a job. As long as you have friends to talk to and laugh with, the scaryness will wear off after that first week.

You are ready for more work.. they do not give you more work than you can handle. do not majorly procrastinate and you will be ok. if there are areas that you excel at AP classes can be stressful but also great.

High school is hard for tons of reasons. If you get a choice, sit in the middle of the class or up front... you will have few distractions. There is a T of success.
Everyone is lost and feels scared or thinks that high school seems scary. Keep some of your friends and be ready to make new ones. Dont invest too much into cliques but be ready for some people to get really focused on being part of a certain group. Don't be an obvous teachers pet but be a student that teachers can trust and be willing to ask questions or even get extra help. If the teachers trust you, you have alot more wiggle room and get the benifit of the doubt. (works the same with some parents) sometimes being a good student can get you a pass on a assignment, an extra day to do stuff, or an alternate assignment.

Work on the attitude. Find tips on taking notes and staying awake in class. i always lost my stuff and was a wreck when i started high school. Use your planner and stay halfway organized and school should get pretty interesting in high school. Middle school can be lame at times. The more effort you put into participation or paying attention, the better things shall go. Act like being in school will be the best years of your life, you have no idea how good you might have it.

I do not think you should get carried away with the freedom bit too much, as that can get you into trouble. But high or any think is scary if you want it to be, it all depends how you look at it, as a wounder-full new adventure or an opportunity to learn lots and improve yourself or stay on the negative and be confused, But you could go out there and have fun and learn lot and excel, look in the mirror and tell yourself you are beautiful and you can do it on a regular basis, confidence building

im not gona lie high school is a lot harder than middle school, but its so much better, i cant even tell you.

for one thing you get to pick your classes... as a senior i could take whatever classes i wanted. and one i chose was student assistant... best class i ever took ;)

also, you get a chance to be a part of so many clubs and activities everything from football to band and spanish club to ski club. it's pretty awesome. just dont let someone convince you you cant do something, because i high school... you can do it all.

there's definitely no need to be scared of high school. and i know you'll find a bunch of great friends who will have the same feelsing you do

hope that kind of helps

High school is everything middle school isn't.
A lot more freedom is just one benefit.

I hated middle school, it was the worst two years of my life, and then in high school it just opened up so many things for me.

The first month or two of high school you might feel stressed out because you are so nervous, but once you see it's nothing much more different you start to relax and you learn all the benefits and advantages of being in high school.. and you can relax.. plus if you start to help out with the office and become friendly with some of the teachers in the school you can basically choose your own classes... atleast thats how it worked for us here in my town.

highschool's not that undesirable, it is only what you're making of it. Like, the people who have a unfavourable view of it from the get-flow are going to have undesirable extreme college thoughts, yet those with a favorable view are going to have relaxing! i've got in basic terms been to one 365 days of highschool, and that i think of it is okay. And in spite of human beings inform you, upperclassmen will in basic terms p.c.. on you in case you initiate annoying them; only like wasps! you will do only superb, extreme college's no enormous deal.

well, in my case, its pathetically easy. i have a 4.5 GPA and i'm in all honors classes. in 8th grade i had a 3.5. well last year(8th grade, im a freshman) was really hard, especially my math class.

so its all how you look at things. study, but save some time for leisure.
