I don't know of anyone who is pro-abortion, in that they think that abortion is a good thing to do, all things being equal.
However, a lot of people are pro-choice, that is, they believe that a woman should have a choice as to when and whether to have a baby.
Being in favor of saving the world's children does not contradict a pro choice position, if one is mainly interested in saving the children that are already here. Some women who have already had all the children they can handle may abort so that they can focus on caring for the children that are already here. ( I know people who oppose abortion say that the uborn is already here too, I"m just explaining how one can be pro-choice and also in favor of saving children.) This is a difficult decision made by the female of many species, whether to sacrifice potential offspring to save actual offspring, or vice versa.
It's not an easy or happy choice, whether it's made by a mother human or a mother wolf, but it's HER decision, not something that any outside force (gov't etc) ought to have a say in.
FYI, I have never had an abortion and don't think I ever would. However, this is a decision that I make, for my life and the life of my offspring. It's not my place to make that decison for anyone else or their offspring.

It's ironic, isn't it? Here are answers to some of the ridiculous arguments being made here, courtesy of http://www.deathroe.com/Pro-life_Answers . (I've abridged these answers somewhat. To read the full text, use the link above.)
Someone can be opposed to abortion but still be pro-choice:
...There is no reason to be opposed to abortion except the recognition that it is the killing of a child. So what these people are really saying is, “I would never kill my baby, but I wouldn’t stop someone else from killing their baby.”
To see how truly asinine that is, imagine someone who says, “I would never own a slave, but I wouldn’t stop someone else from owning one.” Could we honestly conclude that such a person is opposed to slavery?
I am personally opposed to abortion, but I can’t inflict my beliefs on others:
....That raises the question: which other innocent human beings do they think it should be legal to kill? Also, are they equally tolerant on other issues? Presumably, they are also “personally opposed” to rape, armed robbery, racial discrimination, and wife-beating. Do they have a problem inflicting their personal beliefs regarding these issues as well?
...Of course, when it comes to this “forcing beliefs” issue, the most important point is that 45 to 50 million dead babies have had the pro-choice mob’s beliefs forced on them.
To end child abuse, we need to make sure that every child is a wanted child.
First, this completely ignores the fact that abortion is itself the ultimate example of child abuse. Second, the right to life of a human being is not determined by whether or not some other human being wants them. There are many born people in the world who we could label as unwanted, but that doesn’t mean we can kill them. As for abortion, wantedness is a function of the humanity and character of the mother. It has absolutely nothing to do with the right to life of her child.
Third, this idea of preventing child abuse which might occur sometime in the future by executing the potential victims today, makes about as much sense as trying to eradicate wife-beating by executing all married women.
...Further, there is no evidence that unplanned – or even unwanted – children are any more likely to be abused than planned or wanted ones. To the contrary, in 1980, Professor Edward Lenoski at the University of Southern California studied over 600 cases of child abuse. He found that in over 90% of these cases, the parents said that the child they abused had been a wanted child.

WHAT? I have NEVER, NEVER met a person that was pro-abortion. EVER. I have met many people who are pro-choice, and there is a world of difference.
Hell, I am for saving the worlds children, after we fix our problems, if part of that solution would be to help people stop bringing unwanted children into this world, all for it.

Interesting question!!! I beleive it's because they think that an embryo at a certian stage does not count as life. And actually, by societies standards, they would be right. The body of a woman serves as a life support system for an embryo. without the support of this body, the embryo dies. Much in the same way as someone being kept alive on mechanical life support. We have no way of really knowing if these embryos- or these disabled individuals on life support- are really alive. But society allows the descision to be made to disconnect people from life support everyday. No one argues with anyone taking this liberty as adamately as they do with abortion- when principally it's the same thing. So why are people with names and identities and families and lives allowed to die at the hands of society's whims everyday? and why haven't you asked this question instead?? The rules are the same- those running the life support systems with their money (the families of the soon to be deceased) decide to pull the plug. If they say no then the plug stays put. The person in charge of the life support system for the embryo (the mother) also gets to decide if the embryo lives or dies. If one is wrong- so is the other. But are you willing to pay to keep the bodies of all of the people on life support alive indefinately? Because that results in a lot of hospital fees that the families could not possibly afford. Are you also willing to pay to help the mothers of the world who cannot afford to raise their children so that they don;t have to abort? Are you willing to babysit for them while they work? Are you willing to help them raise their children responsibly? Are you willing to take all of the children who are born to mothers incapable of rasing children and raise them yourself? Because these are the reasons that mothers abort. If you're willing to do this, then good for you. If not, then stop asking questions about issues you're not willing to deal with.
