Kingdom Protista include eukaryotic organisms that are not fungi, plants, or animals. That's their unifying characteristic. It's kind of a "miscellaneous" kingdom. There are three main kinds of protists:
a. fungus-like slime molds
b. plant-like algae
c. animal like protzoa

Some amoebae are parasitic and give people gastrointestinal distress.

An amoeba has a very flexible membrane. The cytoplasm can change from a gel to a more liquid-like sol to allow the amoeba to flow out into temporary extensions called pseudopodia. In this way the amoeba creeps and flows along in whatever direction it chooses.

I don't know what level you're studying at but the truth is there's no real group protista - its a classification sure but its no better than say 'water animals' that would include sea turtles, fish and whales - they have very little in common aside from the fact that they are Unicellular.

Nowadays unicellular animals are put in Animalia, unicellular alga are put in Plantae and slime moulds - well they're given their own kingdom/s because they are not fungi.
