If I am playing spanish guitar music I use a classical guitar. (Unless you mean somethng other than what I think you mean by spanish.) It is generally used for that. Wider neck, nylon strings, boomier sound. Nylon strings are designed for classical guitars. I believe flamenco guitars use nylon strings as well. The guitarron is the large guitar used in much spanish music.

Steel strings definitely. You can't get the subtle sounds you want with nylon, you need the wrapped wires for that.

I would use nylon.
