Go to the automotive section of a department store (walmart etc) and get some "bug and tar remover." This stuff works great on gum. tar grease spots etc. in the dryer. Put a dot of it on a clean cloth and rub gum spot. Wipe with a wet clean cloth. I also wet a junky towel and run it in the dryer on high heat for a bit to make sure the stuff is all wiped off the dryer before I put good clothes in it.

Hold ice cubes onto the gum until it's hard, then chip it off with a plastic spatula. The same kind of spatula that you use on your good non-stick pans. You might have to keep going over it with ice, but you're trying to make it rock hard and ice is the only thing that works.
At our house we've had gum in the hair, dryer and in the carpet.
