I read another post just a minute ago about a yeast infection... and mines sort of similar..
My best friend was talking to me last week about how she thought something may be wrong with her, and explained to me what she meant. I suggested it may be a yeast infection, but I'm not sure?
She's really worried and too afraid to talk to her mom. Not that she's immature, she just doesn't get along with her mom at all... and asking her dad would be a bit awkward lol.. so I figured I could get some adivce from other people!
What are some of the symptoms of having one, and what could she do?

Thanks for reading this!

if it's a first yeast infection it should NOT be self diagnosed. It could be an std, or a bacterial infection or vaginitis. She should really see a dr and find out whats wrong. If she treats it with monitat and it's not a yeast infections, she could cause a larger problem.

There is some basic info on yeast infections at www.hufa.com at the yeast link. The main one women get is vaginitis. www.mayoclinic.com is a good source of info on symptoms and what to do.

Yeast infections are characterized by a milky to creamy discharge and itching. They are easily treated with over-the-counter products from the pharmacy, like Monistat. To help prevent recurrence, keep the area clean and dry, and wear cotton underwear.

She really should go to the doctor since she has never had one before to be sure that is what it is.
Otherwise she could try an over the counter yeast infection treatment and if that doesnt solve it she could go to the dr. then.

Usual symptoms are a creamy vaginal discharge with a 'fishy' smell. Also burning when urinating. It is easy to cure and a quick visit to your local family planning clinic or doctor will quickly determine whether she has an infection. I have had infections every time I have been pregnant (change of hormones etc) and a tampon dipped in acidophilus yoghurt cured me.
