It depends on your area...in coastal Virginia, an inch or two of snow is enough to close schools for at least one day, but in Rhode Island, six inches only causes a one hour delay. It would definitely depend on where you live. Generally, it has to be significantly colder than what is usual for the area.

Well it's the single digits here in PA and with the wind chill it must be at least 10 below. We have 2 hour delay in the AM. I'm also a bus driver and although they may not cancel or delay school for snow, they will delay or cancel it if it's too cold for the kids to wait at the bus stop without getting hurt, frostbite etc. So I would say at least the singel digits. But every area has their own criteria.

10:00 news just said Lex KY will close at 20 below wind chill

We had ours closed here last week for temperatures of -25 Celcius , but the wind Chill was -35 to -40 Celcius.

Some of the others answered for snow , not what was asked.

i have never heard school being closed due to cold unless the heat is not working at the school

it only closes if their is like 3-4 inches of snow and the roads won't be cleared in time
if its maybe 1-2 inches we still have school cuz they will get cleared fast cuz of the sun and plows
